Most air conditioners die in middle age and use 1/3 to 1/2 more electricity than they need to!
Here’s Why:
The outdoor part of your air conditioner has a coil with hundreds of thin aluminum fins. These fins get clogged up with dirt and dust that blows around outside. Also, grass clippings and other plant debris get sucked into this coil.Inside your home is another air conditioning coil, with lots of fins spaced very close together (think of it as the world’s toughest to clean venetian blind).
Anyway, this coil gets plugged with dust, pet hair and common “house” dirt. This is a double whammy. Not only can this increase your electric bill … it can actually cause your air conditioner to commit suicide!
That’s right. It can destroy your compressor and that is the most expensive part of your system. And, more importantly, all the air you breathe in your home passes through this gunk about three times every hour while your air conditioner is running.
What You Can Do:
To prevent high electric bills and protect your health, your air conditioner coils should be cleaned and checked regularly. By taking care of your air conditioner you will save money and your air conditioner will last longer.
